wood – care instructions

Wood’s characteristics

Wood is a natural material that changes character with age. Wood changes shape in pace with variations in humidity and temperature. It swells and shrinks, thus causing irregularities. Knots and natural, smaller changes in colour are completely normal and are not regarded as defects. Whether oiled or lacquered, wooden furniture can be easily scratched through negligence and should be treated with care with regard to dirt, fat and liquids. The advantage of oiled wooden furniture is that it can be quickly restored to its original status. A well-kept oiled surface offers excellent protection against stains and enhances the natural feel of the wood.

Handling and care of wooden furniture

Wooden furniture, solid or veneered:

...should not be placed near, or in direct contact with, a heat source such as a radiator as the wood will quickly desiccate.

...must never be placed on a damp surface.

...should have protective pads when using on synthetic or lacquered floors to avoid scratches.

...is for indoor use only unless otherwise specified.

...should be checked regularly for loose screws and brackets.

...must be kept away from coloured candles or any type of tape.

...must always be protected against hot objects, strong solvents and water
